Ingredients

  • 60 g Gouda cheese, cut in pieces,
    or 60 g Edam cheese, cut in pieces
  • 60 g bacon cubes
  • 800 - 850 g chicken breast fillets, skinless, boneless, each sliced open into a single flat steak
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp beef extract (e.g. Bovril, Maggi)
    or 1 tsp meat stock paste, homemade
  • 40 g olive oil
  • 280 - 300 g onions, cut in quarters
  • 2 - 3 garlic cloves, to taste
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 400 g sweet potatoes, peeled, cut in thick slices (4 cm)
  • 500 g apples (e.g. Granny Smith, Golden Delicious), cored, cut in quarters
  • 180 g cooking apples (e.g. Bramley, Reinette), peeled, cored, cut in quarters
  • 1 tsp vinegar, preferably cider or rice vinegar (see tip)
  • 1 heaped tsp curry powder, hot or mild, adjust to taste
  • 200 g water
